Wow, what a great class... I love how many of us have reconnected through Facebook and other channels. Life can be complicated, and I'm proud we stay in touch. News? Let me share what I haven't accomplished. I have started 4 books, have only published one. I have never learned to play any musical instruments, even though I have memories of Mr. Slatter trying to get me to play the trombone in 5th grade. I will never be able to do more than 10 pullups or pushups. Algebra still puzzles me. I am proud husband of Barbara, Dad to Paul and Sarah, and have 4 grandkiddos that live within 10 miles, fine people all. I work in HR and Marketing at Gregory & Appel in Indianapolis, and am fortunate to have loved all but 18 months of all the jobs I've ever had. Pretty much the same person - not much improvement, and I'm OK with that. My secret power? I have good luck in finding parking places in crowded places, and can parallel park most vehicles.

In 45 years, I have owned 6 cars, (mostly Swedish) lived in 5 cities, (Angola IN, Chicago, Orlando, San Diego, and Indianapolis) and still occasionally use the camera I used in high school

Karl and Barbara

Spouse Barbara Ahlrichs

Children Paul (36) and Sarah (32) – 4 well-documented grandbabies!

 Profession:

I guess that all of my jobs have had a common thread - communication and teaching.  The titles have usually included “Sales” or “Marketing” or “Consultant”.  Most of the expertise has either been technical (programming) or people (Human Resources).  Size has been anything from myself (video producer in Chicago) to small ( Consulting startup in San Diego) to large (Global Insurance Broker).   I have loved all of my jobs except one, and I quit that in 18 months.

Personal:

I have loved how Facebook has many of my classmates back in my life, even if I’m mostly lurking.  I am amazed at how many of us have developed into decent, interesting people over time, and how literate we are.  Lots of interesting experiences and very different personal paths. Very proud to be a part of it all.  My main focus for the last 8 years has been family – marrying Barbara, getting to know her adult (and wonderful) children, and building a “home base” where all are welcome.  Also enjoy spending time with my dad in West Lafayette and my new stepmom Sue, who I love dearly.

My interest in Photography has come back big time, coinciding both with the arrival of grandbabies and the travel that Barbara and I have done.  I notice that having a camera causes me to see the world a little better.  I travel some for business as a presenter for conferences and organizations, and that has me out and about several times a month.

Overall, I’m about the same as ever, just with a little more patience, more grey hair, and a larger pants size.  I have the latest computer, but still listen to vinyl records on the same turntable I bought in 1974, because they still sound great.  I’m a techno geek, with retro overtones, I guess.

I’m a Human Resources consultant in Indianapolis, and am developing a national level professional speaking practice on people issues. www.expertspeaks.com) Have done a full lap of the country, having lived in Chicago, Orlando, San Diego and now Indy.

We lost my mom last year, so I’m spending as much time as possible with Dad in WL. After 20 years, my 1st wife left and I’m writing a book as a part of the healing process – I’m doing fine, so far and have remarried a great lady - Barb.

I’m still taking photos, and had an art  gallery opening with 25 of my photos last year. Active with my church and my friends…and fixing up my Model T Ford with my dad. Website for travels etc.: http://community.webshots.com/user
