Posted 4/25/18 Sorry my wife (Joyce) and I won't be able to go to the
reunion due to a "new job" commitment. This summer, we will be working 4 on and
4 off as camp hosts at a Corps of Engineers campground 6 miles from our cabin in
N. Idaho. We took the job on a lark to keep us active. In a nutshell, here's where I've been and done for the past several
years. In 2005, I retired from Santa Barbara PD after 26 yrs. I last worked
in the Cold Case unit. I was also fortunate enough during my time there to
locate and arrest 16 homicide fugitives, whose trails had gone cold after they
fled our jurisdiction. We worked closely with the USDOJ in obtaining Mexican
warrants, with PGR (Mx AG's office) in Mexico City, who helped us find some the
bad guys. During my career, I learned to read, write and speak Spanish fluently
enough to be court qualified as an expert. From 2005-2017, I worked at the Santa Barbara DA's office as a DA
Investigator. I was able to continue my work as a "finder" of bad guys, but
inherited "other duties as assigned." They included being the department
training manager, and managing the DOJ witness protection program for our
agency. That involved some of what one would imagine in witness protection, but
it was no cake walk! I would literally pluck some of the clients from their home
and families, put them into a Cessna 210, and fly them to places far away.
Because they still had to testify, they weren't allowed identity changes until
their court case adjudicated. Many stories in that chapter, some scary, some
funny. I have to tell ya, it was a lot more fun trying to find people than it
was trying to lose them! Last year, Joyce and I decided to leave California, and found our forever home in N. Idaho. We live on secondary waterfront on the Pend Oreille River. Our cabin is 10 miles off the nearest highway. We moved in on January 6, 2018. It is quiet, serene, and chock-full of nature. As I'm typing this, I'm listening to the Canadian Geese honking at each other in a nearby marsh. This goes on even into the night. Being here made all the difference in the world for enjoying retirement. I lost weight, dropped my BP, am feeling "capital," and am enjoying my wife more than ever.

Am living on the central coast of California. I retired from Santa Barbara Police Dept. in 2005 (26 years), and am now at the Santa Barbara DA's office as an investigator. Three kids and five wonderful grandkids. Loving life. |
