Something about my life since high school, that 7% of my life so far, spent
in idyllic West Lafayette? I graduated from the University of Miami
transferring there after a year at De Pauw. I met my husband Dave at the
beach on Key Biscayne and stayed for 10 years working, boating and camping.
During that time, we owned a painting business and then a small welding shop
working on Dave's days off from firefighting and I went back to school to be
an architect. I also started our neighborhood crime watch at that time. We
decided to leave Miami for the West and needed more money! So, I worked for
the USPS as a letter carrier until we could pack up all of our belongings in
a Chevy cube van pulling a 31' Airstream in 1986.

Settling in Steamboat Springs, CO, we worked for the ski area seasonally
while owning and managing rental properties. We skied, biked, hiked, camped
and learned to play tennis. We also owned a machine shop and then a small
construction/remodeling business. I volunteered in the community by serving
on two non-profit boards, finally as president of Yampa Valley Recycles for
which I received the Steamboat Chamber Resorts Person of the Year in 2000
and then president of Yampatika, an interpretive association and
environmental education group. After 18 years, the winters seemed longer
and longer, so we sold the house that we had built by hand, and moved back
East in 2003.

We found Sun City Hilton Head in South Carolina and stayed. Although
retired, I stay busy playing tennis, gardening, sewing, cruising, working on computers and always remodeling. I have served on HOA advisory committees for my community and now volunteer for the Tennis Association as Club Championships Tournament Director. Dave and I spend the summers in the North Carolina mountains to escape the heat and high humidity...not exactly like the Rockies but closer!
